A 2 year postdoctoral appointment, EEC-funded, has become available to join a group studying the modulation of cell-to-cell communication in cardiac cells. The project is focussed on the identification of enzymatic cascades involved in the phosphorylation/dephosphorylation balance which governs the gating of gap junctional channels. Methods employed involve measurements of junctional conductance in double patch clamp conditions and cell-to-cell diffusion of fluorescent dyes. The investigations are performed on dispersed cells (rat ventricular myocytes) and cell lines (transfected HeLa cells). Dysfunction of gap junctions is critically involved in several diseases (e.g. cardiovascular, diabetic cataract, deafness, cancer).

 

Applicants should have a background in the regulation of membrane channels (not necessarily gap junctional channels), with expertise in electrophysiology.
